A Heart So White

Vivien ♀ Twenty one (21) English Literature Major ✎ A Gleek ♬ I love you like a love song

Tuesday, July 29 21:43

I still dare not check my SAT scores. Darn.

DARK KNIGHT! It seems as though everyone has caught it except me. Okay, no lar, but I really want to watch it!

Anyway, I'm going to trim/prune my bushlike hair tomorrow. Gah.

Xumei loves Miley Cyrus' new(-ish) song "Seven Things". Well, it's decent and listenable. :D

I really need to start on something. Journal (Man/Woman), Organic Chemistry Excercise, Ionic Equilibrium Excercise, Econs Essay, Econs Case Study, Literature thingy...

Miss HAL says POSTIVE THINKING! I CAN DO IT!

I know, I know, I'm, supposed to be harbouring hate for her, but hate is just so spiteful. Chill, man.

8) Chill like a hippie.

Yesterday, Mr. Soh asked those who failed Chemistry (I think, cos' my other subjects were okay. Except Lit.) for the one-to-one talk. I am not a one-to-one sort of person. Anyway, when he asked what I was going to take in Uni, I was like "Not science."

Come one! What kind of lame answer was that? Not science is not a major!
"What do you major in?"
"Oh, I major in Not Science!"

I think I'm one of the least goal-oriented person around, because I have no goals. Damn it. People are starting to do research on various Universities when I am still languishing around, blogging about languishing around.

And I guess once you decide to work in a non-science or non-business area, you will be condemned to living in semi-poverty, unless you were some brilliant artist/playwright/actor/art director. Or become a teacher lar.

I am so hungry!

Anyway, before you freak out about the absence of the tagboard, let me assure you that if you scroll down far enough, you will see my tagboard in its full glory. And it has grown in girth too. Now it's hideous.

But anyway, enough about the tagboard.

I am not angsty, Chip! I just sound angsty because I am freaking out about Literature. Seventeen is so not the time for angst. :D

Actually, I really have nothing to blog about. I'm just rather freaked out by Literature and what the Mr. Tan-okay guy said, about how some students can manage to get shocked/stunned by the essay questions. I think if I don't prepare some notes I may actually be one of those students.

I am so bored. Tomorrow is Friday.

I WANT TO WATCH THE DARK KNIGHT! Then I can start studying. I may. Death by procrastination, I call this. Can you believe it, I haven't even finished the Hypothesis Testing Tutorial, or the Chem Bonding revision excercise, or the Organic Chem thing. Of course you can believe it, since I am so slack.

Why do we Imagine Other Worlds?

Sorry for sounding so incoherent. I have nothing to blog about.

Blank verse=ten syllables=noblility speech.

There are so many evil things I want to do towards Miss HAL now.

Dracula type death.

Some ludicrous Warner Brothers type thing.

And Ophelia.
I don't like people who screw things up for me. (death stare)

Wednesday, July 23 20:32

I hate it when my Internet screws up. I was blogging about kismet and Xumei and Mr Soh yesterday but my Internet died. I bet someone is illegally using my Internet connection. I hope he gets mugged on the way home from work/school/selling his kidneys.

Sorry, I am feeling a little neurotic today.

Oh, yesterday, I was also blogging about how long words do not maketh a good essay. I mean, try using pretentious and pompous words like antediluvian (ancient), obstreperous (unruly, noisy), oracular (some oracle thingy), sagacious (astute) or trachelipodous in your GP essay lar. Anyone with a decent thesaurus can find those words.

Well, all except the pesky trachelipodous word, presumably coming from trachea and pod (like, legs), means having the foot united with the neck. How gross is that?

It is true that pompous and ostentatious (zzz) words are fun to use and say, but an overload makes your sentence stuffy and bleagh. I like the word lugubrious, which I saw in the SAT test (I think I tikam correctly), and means something like mournful or something. Try saying it, loo-goo-bree-us, it rolls off your tongue right?

If you did that you must feel ridiculous.

But enough about big words and stuff. I went to watch Hellboy II: The Golden Army today! Nice nice. Sometimes I think the elves (Prince Nuada guy) may be right. What the heck, most of us have probably never seen a unplanned tree in Singapore. Unplanned tree being a tree which grew naturally, not being part of some green project.

Nah, that's too extreme, I guess. But sometimes, Man (and Woman, whatever) reduces everything to something mechanical and economic, nothing seems special anymore. Nothing seems to capture our imaginations, and everything seems so mundane. I want to live in a world where things can actually surprise us, like fairies, or magical quests, like those places in RPGs. And by surprise I don't mean "Oh-gosh-the-stock-market-crashed-what-are-we-to-do?" surprise. Because I can't be bothered if the stock market were to fail completely. Okay, actually I would, as humans are now so reliant on the money system we would be crippled without this market schtuff.

Or we could go back to barter trading. Anyone wants to trade a sandwich for my econs notes?

Sorry, I guess I'm really feeling piss-y today. I want to watch The Dark Knight! It's the only Batman movie without the word Batman in it. Whoo.
_____________________________________

I feel like commenting on the speech by the new GP head today. But I realise I really have nothing to comment about. Except he really loves using the word "okay". And his speech is pretty much just a pre-rehearsed, placebo-ish thing meant to appease us. Okay, so there will be those extra stuff, we gotta thank him/them for actually trying, but what we really want is an explanation from Miss HAL.

We have tangible and psychological needs, you know. The GP team has managed to somewhat satisfy those tangible things, but we have this gaping hole in our hearts. GP may just scar us for life.

And Literature too. I am really freaked out by Literature. I could burst out into tears, I tell you.
_____________________________________

But bursting out into tears is so yesterday. We should be learning from Xumei and Yingyu, who have taken a psycho liking towards emo wrist art.

And because I feel like it,

Matman begins! He has that mat-shaped shuriken thingy which Batman has. Although Batman's is much cooler. :D

I feel like an airhead now, blogging like this. But hey, at least I'm not engaged in some petty/lame blog war thingy. That's so yesterday.

Thursday, July 17 21:19

Oh man, my neighbour is cooking something which smells like putrid sour vegetables. I wonder if it is some weird Beijing cuisine.

Anyway, guess who will be killed by Miss HAL when she hears what Mr Low (Loh? I don't know) says? Well, the word rhymes with pus. US. I will not be surprised if she comes into GP lecture on Monday with a chainsaw and a semi-automatic. Whatever a semi-automatic is.

About the dialogue session yesterday, I think it was fun (until the GP session ended). I mean, how often do you see our level so united, striving towards a common goal? Okay, so maybe a few crazy people spoke about how we were being unreasonable and all that, but hey, we need our particicution too. And don't you think the whole thing was too little too late? (Okay, maybe only me)

And you have to admit, telling them about the bite-mum's-ear-off kid analogy was quite a risk. Who knows how much of a fuss Miss HAL would kick if she hears of her analogy being ridiculed. Although the analogy was distasteful and inappropriate. I mean, how unhygienic is that kid? And there are subtler ways to hate a mum, biting off an ear is just so crude! But I see the effectiveness of that crude and stark image--one gets a sense of his raw emotions and his uncontrollable attitude, the very attitudes which have prevented him from knowing better.

Sorry.

I really don't like those people who give politically correct statements (I don't care how unreasonable our complaints are! I want HOT debates and SPICY arguments!). Part of the fun of being a student is being stupid and complaining about stupid things without back-up examples and the works. But I see the time for those sort of discussions has passed.

But everyone knows dialogue sessions never work. I mean, a bunch of people speaking sensibly, then going for a nibble later, wow, big whoop. Life goes on, senior management speaks to Miss HAL, we die.

As I said, life goes on...

...And on and on and on, until we arrive at the end and think back on this dialogue session (or maybe we would have forgotten about it), and realise that we should have said more extreme stuff, because we would need something to chuckle at on our deathbeds.

Er. I really don't sound very coherent now.

I hope Miss HAL murders us on Monday. :D Okay, okay, maybe not murder, but well, just verbally abuse us. We need more reasons to hate her.

I want/need a haircut. And no, it's not because my hair is making me deaf.

Rumour has it (rumour being Yunxuan) that there will be a student-teacher dialogue session tomorrow. And guess what rumour says? Miss. Hop-a-lot will not be there! Unless you have been taught/screwed up by Miss Hop-a-lot personally, you will not understand how crucial it is for her to be present.

I wonder where she will go tomorrow. On a course to learn more about multi-tasking?

Mdm. Leong ambushed me in the canteen after H1 to ask me about the Literature results (refer to previous posts). Too bad I was too non-unscrupulous to openly criticise Miss HAL (see top) in front of another teacher, and Mdm. Leong ended up with the impression that Miss HAL gave us more knowledge. I don't know how I managed to ad-lib until the truth became so weirdly twisted. I'm so sorry, fellow Literature and/or GP comrades!

And speaking of GP, the highly anticipated lecture did not actually occur, which was a serious letdown. I mean, Miss Toh had none of the pizazz we were looking for. I was kind of expecting fireworks, and a dragon's rage, and some tears to be shed (haha), and what did we get? A 3 minutes mild talking-to about our lousiness and about SOT, and then a 57 minutes, maddeningly boring lecture on the essay questions.

What was that all about?

Oh no, I'm supposed to be preparing for the GP dabate tomorrow, and I'm supposed to have a positive view on the progress of the world. When actually I think the fall of Men is approaching. Right now I just want to sail across the sea and never come back again, like the elves of Middle Earth. The time of Men is over, and maybe now, hobbits will rule the Earth.

Whatever. :D

Saturday, July 12 19:45

After visiting a series of blogs, I have managed to feel considerably worse off. I think the Internet is not my place.

About the imminent GP lecture (and I mean this in the most literal, angry sense) coming on Monday, I guess it cannot be helped. Pat is really in a bad state, since she has to account for both the GP marks and the crazy ESU average (by average, I really mean overall) the H2 Literature students got. Somehow, I pity her, since she got into this state because (I think) of her poor PR skills and/or because no one dares to give her negative feedback.

I had Paper II Literature lessons on Friday, and the new teacher was nice enough. But she made us (me, at least) feel that we had just wasted one and a half years of our year 5/6 life. And that is enough to make anyone have a major panic attack. Imagine Mdm Koh telling us that the syllabus for Chem had been totally revamped and everything we had learnt was bunk. That is how we feel.

I am slightly depressed. Not because of my Common Tests results, which, weirdly enough, are okay (to me, of course). I know I haven't even started studying extremely hard (I don't know if I can do that), or at least as hard as I should, and getting these results just means that from now on I cannot waste time playing Zelda. It is infuriating, you know, I am still at the Twilight Kingdom, but I just have a few more bosses to beat!! And now I have to wait till after the A levels to complete them. D:

So I got ABBEU, and the E and the U are both H2 subjects. I know, I should be freaking out now, but I think I just need to study more for Chemistry now, since I know that I understand the concepts, I just don't study/mug hard enough. Okay, I don't get Ionic Equilibrium much, but it's still not too late.

I got B in H1 Econs, which is a pleasant surprise, since I only studied on the test day. But, as luck goes, I cannot do that for the real A levels. And the A in maths is only because the topics tested did not include Integration and Differentiation, two topics which can kill me anytime of the day. And the E in Literature is, well, a wake-up call for all of us. I just pray it's not too late.

What we need is something to give us hope. Our batch is the smallest Year six cohort, and has suffered the most painful ordeals (okay, exaggeration, but this is artistic licence) such as the House System, malevolent/idiotic noob teachers, stupid new systems and that shit, failing and not getting saved, and lousy facilities. Furthermore, we are loathed/disrespected/treated as invisible by the other cohorts, and we have to trudge our way through all these in the dark, with merely a few competent teachers trying to clear the fog, and guide us.

Wow, this sounds melodramatic and a bit like the Fellowship of the Rings.

But really, I feel that even though I don't personally like or know some (many) people in this cohort, and will probably never speak another word to them after graduating, I think our batch rocks, and is one of the bravest bunch of spunky, foolish idealistic seventeen year olds in Singapore right now. Nothing like desolation to give you a sense of belonging, yeah?

And after reading Chip's post, I realise that there is so much I have gained in these 2/4 years in the senior years (sec3/4, yr1/2), and it really is sad to think that we will be going on our seperate ways in a matter of months. And yes, I will, too, turn up for your respective weddings if you RSVP (whatever this pesky acronym stands for) me (and I want VIP seats, I tell you), even if the wedding were in Zimbabwe (if Mugabe the Tyrant relents, and you send me complimentary air tickets). And I will not chicken out on reunions, even if we run out of topics to speak of and have to comment on the weather.

Promise.

But wait, we are still in July, and I still haven't touched Sampling/AQ (can you believe we have to redo them? As if one time wasn't enough torture)/Chem bonding excercise. And here I am blogging about romantic wedding receptions in Zimbabwe.

Go do your homework! :D

While I walk around the house thinking about Hellboy. And doing my homework. Tomorrow. :D

I think I need to take a leaf out of Chip's book (I hate this phrase, I don't see the point/meaning of it, how does taking a leaf out of an entire book actually make you similar to the person who wrote the book?) and start an initiation. How about SVISS, Smack Vivien If She Slacks, or HVHOTFISRTDHH, Hit Vivien Hard On The Face If She Refuses To Do Her Homework.

But really tomorrow lar. :P

Tuesday, July 8 20:45

Sorry, I'm spamming.

I need to go out, to cure the blues. Not that I'm that blue. But really. I need a break from all these shit. :D

Crazy coloured man!

19:59

Okay, good night. :D Off to slack and watch some mindless Hannah Montana. You would think that I would learn.

Soke May! Zack and Cody is nicer than Hannah Montana.

Wow, we screwed the CTs and here I am watching TV. I should be stoned.
ANOTHER POST
19:44

I am so bored. I want to start studying, but I don't. You know what I mean? Okay, you don't.

Here are 5 reasons I do not consider myself a loser:

1. I have managed to make some cool friends in these seventeen plus years
2. I do not have suicidal tendencies
3. I am not a boring person (I think)
4. I am laid back and I couldn't care less about what others think
5. I like reading (whatever, I cannot think of anything else!)

Here are 5 reasons I do consider myself a loser

1. I am a lazy slob
2. I am mean to people I don't like, behind their backs (but who isn't?)
3. I am unmotivated and I cannot mug! (this is one of the most essential failures of being a human being)
4. I make lousy lists like this, and blog aimlessly
5. I cannot memorise stuff properly (and this is another essential failure of being a human being)

______________________

Do you think the system has a list, and once you fail in certain areas, you get crossed out and labelled a failure?

I hate this self-defeating attitude. Not only do I need a slave driver, I now need a personal cheerleading team too.

19:26

I feel like binging on something now. But since my fridge is quite poorly stocked, I cannot do that.

So I'm binge blogging.

Nothing is worse than getting a U for Chem. Okay okay, I can think of 10 things worse:

1. Getting smothered by a ten tonne truck
2. Failing your A levels
3. Getting dumped by someone you love
4. Growing old and friendless
5. Falling into a pot of boiling concentrated acid
6. Watching Beach Ball Babes (since I hate volleyball, and I don't particularly like distasteful mediacorp shows)
7. Contracting HIV even though there are anti-HIV drugs available in the free market
8. Working in an office as an employer
9. Realising that everything you do is futile (in life)
and
10. Watching your dreams crash and burn

Wow.

I love how we can still joke about our abysmal results. :D

18:25

I have nothing to blog about, unless you want to hear a recount of my dismal Chem and Lit results. And the excuses I have thought up to defend myself.

I bet the new lit teacher hates us. I bet she thinks we are really stupid too, and when she sees our previous records (mostly B), she would think that our markers were dunces.

I hope she doesn't come into class with two red horns and cloven feet, or else I would freak. But then again, being such a pro at Lit, I think she would be more subtle. Although the freaky stamp wasn't really that subtle.

Anyway, this new teacher just successfully pulled down my Lit average. From B to E! Zzz. (but nothing beats chem, B to U, I can only pray that I'm not the lowest in standard. Second to last can)

B to E! She pwns.

I think the school is trying to kill the lit students. What's up with the three teachers in two years? Here we are, happily doing things according to the gospel truth (according to Pat), and then comes this new China stamp teacher who decides that we are not explaining how "language creates meaning", and that we do not "quote judiciously", and everything we have learnt just falls apart. What is up? So who is right?

I hope Miss Ng will not run into class and mark us with the stamp of failure. But then again, being such a subtle literary creature, I'm quite sure she has already psychologically marked us for life.

Oh, anyway, I think Love Song by Sara Bareilles (or however you spell it) is a nice song! Not that I know who Sara Bareilles is.

__________________________

There, that's the line marking the end of the CT lament. I'm not subtle.

I shall turn into a twenty-four hour mugger! Ha. (Ha. Right.)

Okay, okay, I shall turn into a ten hour mugger! (Again, ha)

Fine! I shall turn into a less-slack person!

-___-

I am so hopeless. I need someone to crack a whip behind me, because obviously dangling carrots do not work for me. Nope, I don't need tuition, I need a slave driver.
Fine Dining and Sentosa
Saturday, July 5 16:01

Well, it's kinda late for this.

But fine dining was too refined for an unrefined boor like me. D:

If I had to twirl my spaghetti like a priss every time I ate spaghetti (and if I ate spaghetti everyday), I would end up with biceps to die for at the end of the year.

And what is it with the polite small talk anyway? I wouldn't remember half of it, being too busy with eating my food the proper way. Fine dining is so not for me.

But anyway, poor Mr. Soh got smothered by heavyweight champion Mr. Teen (haha, kidding) yesterday. Now, my class is short of a chem teacher and a civics tutor (form teacher in funny speak)! I mean, how can a guy dislocate another's arm? It's just boorish and uncivilised. Okay, football is kinda boorish and uncivilised, but still. Actually this incident reminds me of Gorons. You know, Gorons?

From Zelda. No offence, though.

But anyway, about Sentosa. I am so burnt. And the sunburned parts are incredibly itchy. *scratchscratchscratch*

And my body is aching. I think I am too old and unfit for this sort of thing. (wow) I cannot understand people who find joy in touch rugby. I mean, what's with all the weird-ass rules? Sorry, I really cannot play touch rugby. I can't even move two steps without committing a foul, an offside, or a whatchacallit.

But I don't regret going, slacking around on the nice, soft sand and fooling around by the water was fun. :D

But by no means am I going to stop complaining about activities like this.

Yay, they are showing The Return of The King tonight!

Wednesday, July 2 21:43

I wanted to post parts of my testimonial and ridicule myself, but I'm too wiped out from writing those lies. D:

I also wanted to post some new Homa cheers but decided that that was really too mean, since I didn't come up with those cheers, and thus cannot ridicule them for being abysmal or simply indescribably dumb. Oh what the heck, I shall post a teaser:
Homa, Homa
Own your mama!

Sorry about that. I mean, sorry for being mean, not sorry for showing you that weird-ass cheer. Okay, maybe I'm sorry for that too.

SCREW THE HOUSE SYSTEM!
