I've been stricken by cupcake-itis. So I went to Google for Singapore-based cupcake places. And I found these:

I love the little gay ♥s on the cupcakes! Don't they make you happy?

Flowers! And swirly cream!

More swirly cream!

Aww. True love, in the form of cupcakes. Whatever that means.

I wish I had a talent for baking. Nooo, all I can come up with is this Peranakan-style Mee goreng I cooked for Home Ec. in Sec 2. I have a craving for cupcakes, but then isn't it a pity to gobble up these awesome creations? Well, and I'm too broke to afford one of these pretty ones. Sigh, unrequited love.

I'm left with $5.70 for lunch and dinner today! D: Looks like I'd have to forfeit lunch(?). Or I can spend $1.20 on some lousy school food and then and have $4.50 left for KFC student meal. I am such a healthy eater, I know.

No those are not miniature models or toys. Photoshop (and photography lah) is awesome in changing people's depth perception, huh? It certainly makes those buildings and people look itsy-bitsy. Like we're giants, when actually we're just as insignificant as we think the entities in the pictures to be. Isn't that like so meta? No? Okay whatever. >_>

I love how the Internet helps facilitate me in wasting my time. Instead of doing the 1000 word reflections essay on pop culture in SE Asia, I'm stumbling. I also want to find out how to print T-shirts so I can stop wearing basic tees.

But my academic to-do list (and hall to-do list) is slowly filling up and I think I'm really going to drown/asphyxiate in the brain mess of mine. I don't even know what that means.

Ah. I shall leave now. Ciao!

Photodump time! Because right now I'm waiting for 930 to come so that I can trudge my way down to the comm hall for the rehearsals. Yet another one.

That's a yellow ladybug I found in my room! It flew onto my shirt (I flicked it away) and then it flew to the cupboard. It was really minuscule and yellow! How cool is that?

And this was taken yesterday (remember how I said I was going window shopping? Well I went on a trying spree too) in Topshop's changing room. I didn't buy it, even though I liked how the shirt was all loose (loose shirts ftw! Comfortable, you see) and long. Too bad it said "I ♥ HOT BOYS" so blatantly. I mean partly that statement has some truth in it (who doesn't love hot boys, right?), but I'm not the type to proclaim that to the world. How embarrassing that would be, to wear it out. But it's still a nice shirt. And it cost only 9 dollars! What a waste.
[edit]Yeah I censored out my half-covered face. No one needs to see that now, do they?[/edit]

And that marks the end of my picdump. I'd probably type out a proper blog entry when the junk in my mind has cleared up. It's like I have so much to do (which I haven't done. That's an understatement actually. I have so much to do I'm actually drowning in the mess in my brain) and not enough time to organize it all. Help! It's like my friend said, one misses the freedom of staying at home where we aren't tied down to all sorts of commitments. How true. ._.

I'll get it done! I have too! T_T I haven't done my readings for tomorrow's 9a.m. tutorials. Oh my gosh. And rehearsals would end late (1 or 2 in the morning) and I'd be so shagged. This hall thing is really starting to get to me. I have a 1000 word reflection essay due next Wednesday. Sigh. Guess I'd have to slog my guts out soon.

And it's 9.27 now. I guess it's time to set off to the land of the undead comm hall. Ciao!

I just had a refreshing shower! Now I'm up and ready to go home/shopping/window shopping. I've been wanting to do one of those very nice long blog posts I like doing, but then decided that I'd rather slack my time away, so.

On a separate note, I think Leonardo died! I haven't seen him in a really long time. Or maybe he vacated the room into another person's with more food and crumbs. Because I didn't stay over during the holidays. D: Don't you love me anymore, Leonardo? Remember the good times?

It's 11.19 now, and it looks like it's going to rain! Oh no, my plans are crashing to the ground. Or whatever the phrase is. My hair is still wet.

Let me show you what I look at when I'm hungry and food isn't available. Here. It's 望梅止渴 taken to a whole new level of awesomeness (and somewhat pathetic too).

I guess I'll go off now. Since my hair is almost dry and I don't have anything to do online anymore. I think I'd have to wait till the workload gets really heavy that I'll suddenly stumble upon something really interesting and massive enough to get me hooked. What fun!

So there.
Good Morning Starshine

The Earth says Hello.

I have to paint wooden cupboard sets at 930 in the morning. On my free day. Tell me this is fun.

But, on the bright side, I'd only have to do it till 11, so it probably means I can go home and maybe do a little shopping on my way home. Don't you just love free days? :D

I have nothing better to blog about already, so, shoo. Shoo!

Well, bye.

Wouldn't want to see how that happened.

On an unrelated note, I'm very much into food and fashion/street-style blogs now. Probably due to the fact that school's on full time mode now, with tutorials (oh the agony!) and piles of readings. Oh, and cupcakes! I love looking at pictures of cute cupcakes.

I want to bake something.

But really, I want to sleep. There's a full-run later, as you all know, so I shall sleep now. Sigh. Later people.

In a fit of passion an act of stupidity, I went to snip off my fringe at the hair place opposite my flat. It cost me four dollars and now, instead of the irritatingly long locks of wavy fringe covering my eye, I have these dog-bitten short stubs of hair I pull off as a fringe. I never had good hair, so eh, whatever.

NUS' mailbox is always over its limit. And there's a full-run for the Army Daze (in case you didn't know--despite my many complaints on this blog--, it's for the hall productions) on Monday night, and I'm like, no way in hell am I going for that because odd Tuesdays are my free days. So I'm probably not going. It isn't that difficult anyway, shifting stuff. Not much brain work, so I think I can handle it without giving it too much effort, right? And I can pretty much remember the movements of the sets already, despite not giving a damn. But I'll see, maybe on that day my sense of false responsibility would suddenly strike me, who knows?

Now the question is, who wants tickets? I mean it, do you want to buy a ticket, priced at $15, to see the performance where I helped backstage? It's definitely worth the money I tell you. No? Fine, you don't know what you're missing out on.

All right then, I shall go to the corner and sob about my messed up fringe. Later, gators! >_>

I just had a shower, after getting back from the Productions full dress rehearsal. I have an aching back from moving the excruciatingly heavy table. But I guess it's okay, since the people aren't half bad, and there was supper from Sheares.

So anyway, it's Choo's 20th Birthday! Can you believe it? The first of the big two-O's victims (not counting people like Cecilia and Peixin lah) among us. Luckily for me, I've still got almost a year left. Oh, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MISS CHOO! :D

But onto something more sombre. Lessons are leaving me hella drained, because everything's really tough now that it's Level 2000. It's like I'm not even sure I can catch up if I still keep with the bad habit of sleeping during lectures. But I cannot help it when the lecturer is going on about Otokichi dude and the history of Japan and Singapore. I never liked History that much (studying about things of the past? Been there, done that), and sitting through an almost two-hour history lecture wasn't much fun.

I'm really sleepy now, pardon me for the typographical and grammatical errors. What I really wanted to blog about was this blog which irked me so much in its entirety that now I feel like I'd just been dunked into a vat of stupid juice. No, I know I don't make much sense now, but bear with me.

It's like this. My cousin (the one who did Fashion, not the Japanese-loving one) and his friend (friends? I don't know) decided to start a blog, trying to emulate the success of commercial bloggers like Xiaxue and Mr. Brown (or whoever you want to add, I'm not too crazy about the local blogging scene, since most are rather mundane nowadays; I'd rather much read TheSartorialist to make up for my lack of style--and money, for the matter), and to earn some easy money. And you know how Xiaxue can be quite catty in her entries (although I love how she and her boyfriend/fiance worked out. So sweet (albeit a little stalkerish-weird at first)!), especially towards people she doesn't particularly like? Well, my cousin, and his dim-witted friends seem to think that cattiness for cattiness' sake would enable them to become instant blog hits. It's like they would take pictures of fat girls and post irksomely, infuriatingly, irritatingly, --yeah you get the point-- mean and small-minded posts about them. And the thing is, those posts are not in the least bit funny. I mean, being mean and funny is one thing, but being mean and overtly unfunny? That's where the lines are drawn between people with biting, hurtful wit (ftw!) and people who are just plain mean-spirited.

To prove my point, I shall post something from their blog:
"Prepare to die soon la... Eat and Eat and Eat! That's what you know.... Haiz.... Soon all sorts of sickness will come to you... High Blood Pressure, Kidney Failure, Heart Attack and so on...... But GREAT! You'll then became a real hungry ghost and enjoy free food offering by human beings every year! And... It's all free of charge, you don't even need to pay a single cent of your hell bank note!"

Right. I could just die seeing all the grammatical errors (Xiaxue's England is ji pro one. And no, I'm not comparing them to her because she's my favourite blogger or anything like that. It's just that my cousin told me that the very blog address of theirs mimics hers slightly, so I take it that their motive is to become wildly popular just like she did), and it's fucking offensive and incredibly unintellectual to make wild assumptions based on a person's obesity for no reason at all. It's not like she did something horrible, like sit on them. All she did was to, well, be unlucky enough to be at the wrong place at the wrong time (that is, to be at the place where the bloggers were, and to be unfortunate enough to be caught on their camera).

So I guess I retract all the things I said about blogging topics I hate. Because there are things way worse than narcissistic shopaholics, people who blog in an emo fashion, and bad grammar. Things such as racism (I bet there would be such posts in the near future, lest they give up their futile pipe dreams, because I saw their "dictionary" of phrases and it included some racial terms and definitions), blind prejudice, unintellectual and vacuous bitchings, and general un-funniness are way worse. And I cannot stand how a few twenty-somethings, with their collaborative minds and ideas, could come up with something so mind-numbingly childish and uninspired.

I guess Singapore's the only place in the world where education either creates minds which are unfailingly rigid or shockingly puerile. And that includes me, because sometimes I wonder if I'm going to end up with a brain which can only think straight, leading me on to a path of money and career advancements, rules and restrictions. Either that or I'm going to end up a good-for-nothing in a world of elites. Like, seriously, a blog bitching about obese people who didn't do a thing to harm you? Get a life, dudes. Even I know that's dumb, and I'm a person easily entertained (I like peopleofwalmart.com, for fishes' sakes. That's already terribly low-brow, and yet I remained unmoved by my cousin's particular brand of, uh, humour).

I think I'm just disgruntled by the fact that he's making fat jokes (which aren't even funny). Nah, I'm really absolutely disgusted by their total lack of common sense/brains/sense of humour/brains. Maybe I was wrong in thinking that age makes someone a better person, because that theory is obviously untrue in the case of my cousin. Ah heck he's still family, so even though he's such a rotten blogger and such a weight bigot, I'd still accept him for who he is. D: Aren't I magnanimous? (Sarcasm101, be self-deprecating, because everyone's a sucker for that)

I have a cough. T_T

Anyways, goodnight, dears! The rant has made me considerably happier.

PS. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN, CHOO! May your 20th be your best one (yet)! And here's to you getting a boyfriend! Because we're all waiting for you to get some hot French guy (because you're the only one able to do that, being in Hot French Guy territory).

313 @ Somerset is awesome! And I don't only mean the four-story Forever21 there, which, by the way, is completely mind blowing, and would be even better if not for the crazy rushes of shoppers on Sunday and during lunch hour (according to my sister, the OLs who have "nothing better to do in life", and who buy ugly clothes). I succumbed to the checkered shirt two seasons to late and bought one, except I didn't realize it was from the guy's section so I bought it. So now I have a guy's checkered shirt which is too big at the top (which is new to me) and fits at the butt. Great.

But that aside, new shoes! Because my pair of slippers, the one which I'm always wearing, decided to break on my way home at Tampines after a freaking long bus ride on 10 last Friday. I was dragging my foot along the shops in search of one which sold shoes (you cannot believe the number of shops which sell shoes when you don't have a broken slipper) and bought a pair of ugly flats for $17.90. I hate spending money like that! There's no joy in it, although I would have gladly paid $20 at that moment in time for a pair of fake crocs (no I'm exaggerating. Crocs are the ugliest things a human can wear upon his feet). So I happily bought the flats, turned, and saw a shop selling dowdy printed slippers at $2.90 a pair. Couldn't believe my shit luck that day. Maybe things will get better after the Chinese New Year. This isn't a good year for horses, I suppose. Whatever.

I haven't bought CNY clothes.

Oh! And I dropped the literature module. I pretty much made up my mind when I saw the essay questions he sent. So I've decided to take 2 level 2000 literature modules next semester to catch up with my literature-less semester this half of the year. Lessons have been, uh, fun, so far, though. Although I must say the Introduction to New Media writing lectures have been nothing short of an epic bore. And the Popular Culture in SEA has left me lost, because as of now I still don't know where the module is going. But it's okay, although I don't know anyone in the class, sob. Oh and the Japan and Singapore module is killing me, because the lecturer is really boring, and now she tells us there's a copyright issue and we've got to actually borrow the book form the library? WHAT?

Yeah, sorry, bitchiness sort of showed there a little.

So now the modules I'd probably like are FMA1202C and my other NM module, which is taught by this guy who behaves totally like Jason Ng, complete with lame jokes and general likability. Although we're learning about media theories (THEORIES EW), and next week's lecture is about semiotics. D: But at least it's more interesting than, say, learning about the Inverted Pyramid structure in writing news, and how we should write by following the 5W, 1H, 1SW (So what? Uh just so we're clear, I'm not being sarcastic here hor) rule. I think after that module I'd seriously reconsider the whole "Oh I wanna be a journalist!" thing. Because I cannot imagine writing things based on those inane rules for the rest of my life (or, well, 4 years). I want to be unspecific; I want to ramble on about some unimportant point because I want to. The only sections I'd want to write for are Urban and Life!, because those are probably the best sections there are, you know? Well, at least they're the only sections I read with joy. The Forum section sometimes just leaves me thinking that all Singaporeans are fucking small-minded idiots. And don't even get me started on STOMP (the cesspool of filth they pull off as an Internet forum where discussions are held).

I'm in love with Boys And Girls! A song by Pixie Lott; no I'm not proclaiming my bisexuality. I'm not bisexual, just to clear up the matter, haha. Well. I've run out of things to say!

Ciao, babes.
Good Times Bad Times
Friday, January 15 01:47

To commemorate my first night in hall this semester, I shall blog in the darkness of my room at 1.49am while blasting music from the inferior laptop speakers. Sometimes I think my neighbour dislikes me for that, then I remember that she's always bringing her friends over in the middle of the night, laughing and conversing loudly, so I don't think she minds that much. Either that or she's seeking revenge for my lousy taste in music. nah, she's nice and all that.

I don't know why, but staying in hall causes me to sleep way past my usual slacker bed-time because I'm always using the Internet for one reason or another (though not for watching porn, as Judy thinks). I just had a shower, because I had a productions meeting I had to go for (one of my production sets mates told the sub-comm head that she was celebrating her Grandmother's birthday. Doesn't that sound way too familiar to some of you CO people?). In retrospect though, the rehearsal wasn't half as bad as I made it sound, because I have the tendency to be overly dramatic in text (as you well know). There's this nice girl in sets named Vivien (no, I don't mean me!); maybe all Viviens are nice and great people whom you should be so honoured to befriend. Oh but the play isn't an original production! They're doing Army Daze. D: But the actors aren't too shabby and I managed to laugh (out loud! LOL!) a few times. I think I troubled Soke May and Judy with my text messages for nothing, sorry dudettes.

How was my week, you ask? (Pretend you did) Well, I've gotten myself into an even deeper dilemma, such that I really do not know what to drop! I sat for the EN3224 lecture today and although it was all talk about modernism and postmodernism --which aren't entirely new to me, though it's not like I know a lot about them --, I think I can take the module, because it's still literature nonetheless (until I fail it; then I would berate the heavens for letting me make such a bad decision). However we're reading totally dense and scary texts and I'd be taking the module with a bunch of seniors with more experience, like level 2000 literature modules. And if I drop the module I'd have Thursdays free! Not counting tutorials, that is. Which reminds me! Tutorial balloting starts tomorrow. D:

So we'll just leave that module dropping thing hanging first, yeah? I still have a week or so to decide anyways. I had my freshman seminar module! Oh my gosh there's something wrong with the Internet connection! Why? I think there must be some divine being trying to stop me from blogging. I shall resist! I refuse to bow to this destiny! Uh. Sorry I'm a little delirious. As I was saying, Freshman Seminar. FMA1202C: Social Media and everyday life (in case some junior next year Googles the term. I sure did). The prof was really friendly and nice, and I can tell that the module is going to involve a lot of Internet and videos and stuff like that. Although the class only has 8 students. Which can be a good thing, since I wouldn't have to speak up in front of thirty threatening-looking people who seem to know everything, like in literature tutorials. And that would mean that I would get some marks for class participation yippee. Plus the prof said, jokingly, probably, that this course was designed to give students free grades.

But marks and grades aside, it looks like an interesting course! And there's not final exam! Only a three thousand word essay to be done. I think the truth hasn't sunk in yet that three thousand word essays aren't all that easy to write. And I promised myself that I would make an effort to write this essay well (not like the slipshod, last minute ones I did for literature). I like the way the prof teaches! He's not all academics and seriousness, and he even said that the essay could be written in a lighthearted manner. And the last time I heard this being said by a NUS prof was like, uh, never.

I'm sure you're sick of all the academic news though. So I shall tell you about my feats in tidying the room! And the banal, mundane things I do in hall. Including,

taking a picture of my transponder while I was sitting in the comm hall waiting for the play to move on from the repetition of the first lines. Isn't my transponder awesome? It's way better than keys, isn't it?

And here's me being all narcissistic in front of my room's full-length mirror. You can see the Magiclean© broom-ish thing in the mirror too. I'm wearing my comfy striped pullover which cost me $5 and makes me look $1. But it's comfy and good for keeping warm when it suddenly gets cold in the middle of the night and I'm too lazy to turn the fan down low. Don't you just love the fact that you can see my hand in the mirror and out of it too? Isn't that like so mind-blowingly postmodern in the way meaning is fractured and repeated such that reality isn't defined and precise anymore? Aren't I just so awesomely artistic?

No? Okay, whatever, who cares what you think?

My bed! And my happy sheets! Doesn't it look so inviting? Like, "Vivien, stop reading your readings and take a nap on me! I'm yellow, bright, and soft!"

Um, and, I don't know how to say this, but I've.. I've got to go now.. My inviting bed is inviting me to have a shuteye, and it's an offer I just cannot refuse. By the way, it's 2.41am now. I cannot believe I've rambled on for so long. But for now, I'm a happy person, because I've got a great bed! (and an unbelievably cluttered table, readings which are starting to pile up--figuratively, I mean--, a module to drop, textbooks and course packages to buy, laundry to do... But hey, tomorrow's another day to push all these troubles to :D)

Goodnight, my dears!
Beautiful, dirty, rich (not)
Tuesday, January 12 23:36

The thing about texts is that you can ignore them and the sender would probably forget that he/she had sent it in the first place. It's exceptionally helpful when you are dealing with people whom you're not exactly excited to deal with, like hall production sub-comm heads, or pesky party-planners who seem to think that every single birthday has to be celebrated at City Hall.

And it's not like I have anything against the sub-comm head; he's a perfectly friendly person, but it's just that I don't particularly know the people in the comm, thus I don't like going for the meetings, so I'm always giving excuses (read: lying) about stuff I've got to do. Well, some are true (family dinners, Christmas shopping - although technically I texted "some Christmas Eve thing"), while some I'm too ashamed to type here. Okay, no, I'm not. I told him my aunt was in labour, which was something that happened about a few months before that. I am kind of hoping that he'd get so fed up with my slack attitude that he would kick me out, but I guess because everyone in hall's pretty much lackadaisical in attitude that my behaviour could be tolerated.

I don't think I'd be staying in hall the next semester, partly due to me not amassing enough points. Not that I'd want to, because the only thing keeping me from withdrawing is the fact that I could go out as late as I wanted to and not get into any trouble. But it's not like I do that so often anyway. I would certainly miss some people slightly, but not enough to make me desire, in the least bit, to stay on. One of my OG friends recently moved out, and another one is moping over a break-up (I think? According to FB and mopey MSN personal messages), so I wouldn't say it's all fun and sunshine there.

I'm at home now, in case you didn't get the hints. I haven't packed my room (worse than a pigsty, I tell you. At least the pigs have got fresh hay/mud to sleep in; my bed is completely cluttered with bags of clothes and my guitar, and is bare in the sense that I haven't put the sheets on it) and I want to watch Together, even though it's getting a little contrived and overly dramatic. I want to see how everyone turns out in the end. Oh, and they're going to show Glee on Starworld! Another reason why hall isn't all it's cracked up to be.

But enough about hall. I have enough things to think about, since I've bitten off way more than I can chew with six modules. I'm having a dilemma, since I don't know whether to drop my ten-person freshman seminar or the level 3000 literature module, because I'm not certain which of these two modules would slaughter me more thoroughly. So, death by postmodernism or vocalising in lessons? I think I'd probably end up dead either way, so I shall go for the lectures first and see which is less traumatising. Although looking through IVLE I can conclude that literature is going to be very traumatising indeed, since we're doing Yeats' poems, and texts by James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Harold Pinter (why is his name so familiar? Seriously, I've seen it somewhere... Or not? Uh), T.S. Eliot, Luigi Pirandello (heh?) and Winterson Jeanette (who?). Four novels and three course reader thingamajigs. I'm already trembling, on the inside. But then if I dropped this I would have to take the freshman seminar, where I would actually have to speak in class. Because it's three hours in a classroom of eleven (ten students, one prof.), and it would be agonizingly obvious if I didn't speak up, which means bye-bye CAP improvement. Not that one should take a subject just for CAP and grades, but I'm just trying to point out how pathetic I am right now.

Why, oh why, did I get outbidded for French? It was only 266! T_T

Although right now the only French in my head is the refrain from Bad Romance. Not very scholarly, I tell you. Although French has this je ne sais quoi about it, doesn't it? Je m'appelle Vivien, I'm taking french the next semester. I'd be so old. Bah. See, I'm so set for Level 2000 French, aren't I? I know what poisson is! Take me! I need to learn a language before my brain starts to die; I don't want to be the fuddy-duddy old woman in French class!

Nah, I'm not so desperate. Yet.

The thing that's giving me a considerably large headache. Especially in terms of arranging for tutorials. I know, FMAs don't have tutorials, but it takes up a large three hour chunk of my week, and somehow every single freakin' tutorial falls on Wednesday, and only a miserable module has tutorials on Friday. What is wrong with the school, man? The one time I don't have Fridays free they decide not to have Friday tutorials.

I shall go sleep now. I just ("just" being about eight hours ago) read module-review, and apparently one of the NM modules I'm taking this semester is "dry" and only for those who "like memorising" theories and whatnot. Nobody likes memorising anything! Not unless they had photographic memory, like Cam Jensen (betcha don't know who that is!). What awesome fun!

I shall really go sleep now. For some reason I've got an aching shoulder (getting old, you see) and am feeling super drained, even though I spent the entire day doing almost nothing. Almost. Goodbye, my dear friends! Sleep beckons!

Oh, and CORS is up again. Looks like it's going to be okay after all.

Ciao.

Oh my gosh CORS is fucking not loading and if I don't get in early I'd have to start of with fucking high bid points.

What a way to start the semester. And now I have to go for my SE lecture (with only 48 students, it hardly does count as a lecture) in AS7, which is the awesome air-conditioned building. Sigh. I do so want to log into CORS.

Sorry!

We apologise that the CORS server is unable to process your request at this time. This could be due to a server restart to fix unexpected server issues, or deploy application changes that facilitate registration.

Curse you, CORS! And all you infernal bidding problems! I wonder if it's just me though. Since I'm using the NUS wireless. Ah feck it. I'm off. Tata.

Whoa this is my 401st post. I'm freakin' hungry now. I'm still set on shopping for back-to-school clothes, but since school is starting in T-minus I-dunno-how-many hours, and I'm not really looking forward to starting school wearing something I've worn a hundred and one times (namely, my white shorts, as you well know). So I'm not. I'm wearing, drumroll please, jeans!

Also, I've been looking at the clothes online (but not shopping online, unlike certain friends of mine), and realised that DP dresses are cut to make everyone besides size 0 models look frumpy. Which isn't all that nice. I want to buy shorts! Why can't they change the season already?

And then I realise I'm not thinking clearly now. Which probably means I need to sleep, like, now, because I'm fast losing the ability to type properly. Hungry, sleepy, disoriented. And I feel the first waves of stress. Moooooo.

Goodnight, happy 401st, dear blog.
Time to say goodbye

Aloha! I managed to bid for another two modules, so right now I'm relieved to say that I've got four modules. All that's left to do is to bid for one more module on Monday and I'd be done with gawd-awful bidding procedures, at least for this semester. That will teach me to not declare my major.

Sadly, I didn't get French. T_T But it's okay! I have four more semesters (not counting the fourth year, since honours year you cannot do other stuff but your honours..?) to do that and there are only three or four levels of French. I'm considering 6 modules now, three of which belong to the Freshman Seminar thing. There's one on Australian Culture (I'm not Australian), Social Media (only 9 spots left!), and Global Culture. Seems like I'm rather keen on culture this semester, since I'm already taking SE2210 - Popular Culture in SEA, which is already flooding my IVLE with tonnes, I repeat, tonnes of readings. But at least that seems mighty interesting. Then I've got two NM modules, my would-be major if I had declared. Although I still hold a soft spot for literature (because I cannot give up on something I'd liked/loved(?) that easily, can I?), and may bid for it as my last module (The Eighteenth Century). Then there's European Studies, which sounds interesting enough, and finally, a Computing module which is only worth 3 MCs, which makes it one of my last choices (the die-liao-nothing-to-choose! sort of module).

Wow, I wouldn't even have bothered reading that. Well, I shall make use of my last few stress-free (relatively, what with the bidding shit and all) to sleep. Good luck people! It's time to delve into the murky depths of University education once again! Good luck, and good night.

I'm feeling whimsical.

So here's a unicorn pooping rainbow (or rather, a rainbow pooping unicorn. Uh. Yeah).

And this is freaking cute. Okay, bye.

The fact that I'm up at 9 in the morning, blogging, means that I'm busy fretting over bidding. By "fretting" I really mean "incessantly renewing the bidding management page, staring at the screen waiting for some change to appear". I really want to get my GEM2901 module, so I threw an entire 460 points into the bidding cesspool of filth. I just hope it's enough to appease the bidding gods. If not I'd have to take 4 programme account modules, and I would be sad. Actually, I wouldn't, because my philosophy for this semester is to chillax and go with the flow, man. No wait, that's more like my philosophy in life.

Anyhoo. Mr Soh's wedding! I should have gone with wearing the whole skirt+top thing instead of a dress, because I have dress issues. But the wedding was awesome, because the people at my table were great. We were probably the loudest table in the bunch. The dinner was the usual wedding fare which included prawns, fish, sharks fin soup (which is horrible to sharks; sorry sharks T_T), and pissed-off waiters who had to dance before the meal. I would go on into more detail about the entire affair, if I weren't feeling so brain-dead now. Oh, I got some measuring tape (of love) they gave as the wedding door-gift (?), which I could use to, uh measure the size of my head, or my desk in hall.. Yeah.

Oh my, 666 people bidding for the Reporting Statistics in the Media GEM I'm bidding for! It's the number of the devil! It's the apocalypse! RUN! RUN I TELL YOU!

For the record, there are only 500 vacancies. T_T So I have no choice but to show my measly hand (460 only! WTF WIN), when the highest bid for it is 2445 points. On the other hand, the Singapore and Japan SS module I'm also bidding for only has 62 bidders for a 150 vacancy lecture.

My hair smells like fermenting green tea. Oh gosh, it's the shampoo I used last night. I desperately need a haircut, because my fringe is irritating the shit out of me now. It's unkempt and thick and of uneven length (pretty much describes the rest of my hair, really). Eh my leg is numb now.

Shall go brush my teeth and do the morning drill. Later, dudes!

Hello hello, my dears! I'm back from o-a-meesua(?)land. Actually I was back on the 3rd, but I didn't really have the mood for blogging. For one thing, I missed out on my 2009 reflections! Is it too late to do one now? Yeah, it probably is, but still, it's not considered a new year if I don't do one. So here's the long anticipated overdue 2009 reflections.

It was an eventful year, actually. 18th year on this green Earth, and way too many changes had occurred. And it's not like all the changes were good.

1) I got my first job. Man that makes it sound as though I did a lot, didn't it? But as you all know I only worked for 9 days and quit because my personal policy is that money isn't important. In fact, I would rather live a happy life without money than a fucked-up 9-5 life earning $10000 a month or something. And you all know that. However, since I'm still a stupid 19 year old dolt, I look to the material sometimes for happiness, so I cannot live by that philosophy yet.

2) I slacked for six months or so. It was Slacker's Club nirvana, I tell you. You wouldn't believe how many things I did not do. Yeah yeah, waste, schmaste, I don't really care what you think. Another of my personal philosophy is that if you like what you're doing and are particularly good at it, just keep doing it. Although right now, being that same 19 year old dolt, the only things I'm good at are slacking, sleeping, eating and wasting time, so that's what I do. Don't want to lose the meagre talents I've been bestowed.

3) We received our A-level results. Surprisingly, despite being one of those 17/18 year old dolts who constantly whined and whinged about lousy teachers and lectures and the overwhelming stench of the mugger attitude in school, I didn't do too badly, and managed to move on to the next stage of muggerdom and elitism! Namely, A LOCAL UNIVERSITY! How rad is that, huh?

4) Invited people over to my house to play Guitar Hero: World Tour. After 7 years of never having friends over too! Let me tell you the sad story of how I incurred my mother's wrath in Primary five. You see, the then 11 year old dolt that was me brought a few friends over for a few rousing rounds of monopoly (we were supposed to be doing a project, but back to the story). Anyways my mother when down to buy us lunch, and asked me to lock the door. So I locked it and then brought my friends into my room to have a look-see. We started opening drawers and cupboards; basically they were snooping around. Then my mother came home and told me to unlock the doors. But the thing was, I couldn't find the keys. I searched all over for about fifteen minutes, and my mother was bloody pissed off at me. Guess where I found the keys? I found them in one of my drawers. Everything's kinda fuzzy after, but I think I got a helluva scolding, and from them on I never really thought about inviting friends over.

5) Went for both Hall camps and Arts O'week. I don't' know what drove me to do that; maybe I was bored out of my mind and wanted something to do for a change. It isn't that easy to slack for six months straight, I tell you. Anyway, made a couple'o friends (yeah, more that a couplpe, but since we're not even that close, it doesn't make much of a difference. Friends, like slacking, is a matter of quality, not quantity. You wouldn't want to slack for a week in a shower cubicle with pads hanging around, nor would you want to have many friends who mean nothing much to you) who I could make small talk with, and a few with whom I could extend the small talk into better friend talk if I hung out with them more (alas! No!), but either way it's pretty shallow. Hall camp really got me out of my little slacker comfort zone, though.

6) Stayed in hall. Did a couple'o hall stuff. No, no, I am not some rah-rah hall lover now. I am still the same ol' apathetic (and pathetic) me. Happy now? :D

7) Had my first clubbing experience. Shh. Okay, so all the things I said about it was true. Sweaty people and deafening music. But sometimes it's cathartic in a smelly, obnoxious manner. I'm serious.

8) Realised how difficult it is to get into a girl clique. Especially when everyone already has their own pretty little cliques of girls. Also realised how guys you don't know were easier to hang out with than girls you don't know. How sad is that? Extremely sad, if you ask me. It's not like you can form a clique with a bunch of guys because that's just weird, and guys don't actually do the clique thing unless it was with a big bunch of girls (I don't need to list examples, do I?) or if the male-female ratio wasn't too large/small/whatever. However sad this is, I've also come to realise that sometimes it isn't bad being alone, if the other option was that of hanging out with people you aren't particularly keen on being with/comfortable with. Yeah, as avid GP students I'm sure you catch my tone of melancholy.

9) Found out goodbyes are one of the hardest things to say. Not only can it be just a little awkward (like, I don't want you to leave, because I'd miss you, but I really don't know what to say to you), it's also sad at the same time. Knowing that you may not see the person for a year or so. Or the fact that you've all grown up (relatively, that is), and that the world's a much bigger place and you can't all hang out in your little cosy world.

10) Decided that bidding was the bane of my existence. 'Nuff said.

11) Learned that the best friends you'd ever have are those from your schooling years. And no, I do not consider University as part of my "schooling years". Because I find no joy in that sort of schooling, since the lecturers don't give a damn, the TAs (most of them) really couldn't be all that bothered (with the exception of a few), and tutorials consist of a few vocal ones speaking up and leaving the rest in their wake. It's weird how even Primary school classmates I've not seen for years (and years) seem to have more conversation topics than some of the acquaintances I've made in University. Okay, so it isn't that strange. I really love you all. You must know that! :D

12) Was disappointed with results. What the shit I was never disappointed! Even if I got an S for Econs, or an E for Chemistry. It's the bloody cumulative thing. I think I've become used to not working and managing to wing As and Bs (Bs were okay in JC) and Cs. Without too much effort (which can cause paralysis brain aneurisms. True story). So now, when I don't put in effort and not manage to get straight As (I blame it on the people who told me University would be a breeze. Breeze my fallacious foot. And blame it on the fact that they all say FASS is the place where those who cannot make it go to, so I expected to be one of the better people who cannot make it; I'm not) I go ape-shit crazy (in my brains only) and start berating myself. But now that I'm older and wiser (2010, baby!) I've decided to tell myself to take it easy, since I'm not one to really care about results anyway.

13) Realised that elitism exists in all sorts of shithole institutes, as long as you're on the lovely little island of Singapore. I'm so sick of the whole elitism-masquerading-as-meritocracy situation in here. If it's not that then it's the air of mugging which pollutes the campuses here. Do they derive joy from the grades, or from the fascination of learning? I'd guess the former, although I'm not so noble as to say that I love learning. I do love learning about some things, like all the quirks of various religions, or cool media stuff, but if you put me in a lecture theatre with Miss what's-her-face lecturing on the identity of a person and a nation and how love is not seperate from remembrance, I'd rather die a thousand deaths.

14) Flunked the MOE scholarship interview. Since I'm not under them, I can slander speak about them all I want, unlike a certain Miss C___. Ahem. I probably wouldn't have wanted the scholarship even if they offered it to me, because it ties in with the whole elitism thing. One factor contributing to that is the fact that teachers promote favouritism and elitism amongst students. It's true that not all teachers are like that, but for every Mr. Sng you get nine Fong-shits, which doesn't do students any good. As much as I respect the teachers who really do it for the love of educating the younger generation and moulding future talents, I am just about up to here *does the hand thing indicating level of irritation* with all the dickwads who dig the elitism thing. I even said something about it during my SPH intern interview about students who never get a chance just because they sucked at school, when they asked me about something I cannot quite remember. My response shocked me, because I never knew I felt strongly about anything at all.

15) Overspent.

16) Found out that Stairway to Heaven was/is an awesome song. Yes, being in hall (being bored in hall, I mean) has its perks, since the time I spent online allowed me to find out that classic rock (I don't know, I'm assuming this is classic rock) is awesome.

17) Another Internet related thing. The STOMP incident, where I used my superior prowess, knowledge, and debating skills to win the flame war behaved like a too-free loser.

18) Missed my friends terribly.

19) Missed the date for the 2009 reflections because I was in Taiwan growing fatter and playing pool with my sister in the hotel.

20) Also learned that I've actually got quite a lucky and happy life so far, so there really shouldn't be much that I should be asking for. For one thing, I've got great friends and family, I don't have needs which cannot be satisfied, I get so-so grades without working too hard (yeah, that's bad, but I'm counting my blessings, so, shh), and I didn't die in my cycling incident, so what more can I ask for?

And because I don't do the whole New Year Resolutions thing (never did, and never will (unless I do it in secret; you wouldn't know), because I never realise them), you shall not see it here. I just wish you all all the best in 2010, and thank you for everything. This blog wouldn't exist without you lovely readers. (Are you there? Hello? HELLO? ANYBODY?)

XOXO,
the ever antisocial Vivien
