A Heart So White

Take a sad song and make it better

I have two/three projects which require video-cameras, shooting, editing, buffering - the works. Brings back fond memories of doing the short film and MTV in Secondary 3, and the documentary in Secondary 4, doesn't it? I thought I was done with films; who knew it would all come back to haunt me when I'm less than one year away from being an old fart 20?

I think I'm going to die for the individual one. I'll probably beg the prof to let me off the hook and allow me to write an essay instead. Individual filming? I don't think even lousy Indie film-makers do that! And now I have this gaping (?) feeling in my tummy. Like when you over-eat and have an upset stomach, except the weird thing is I haven't ate anything except a lousy Fish Zinger meal for lunch. And a banana doughnut (wut) for breakfast. Must be the fact that there's a 15% press release assignment due tomorrow and I haven't done anything.

If I were crazy (which I am on the verge of being now) I would gladly accept it if they did away with weekends and made everyday a weekday instead. Then I wouldn't go home and waste my time watching Titanic (sadly I haven't been able to catch the first half an hour of it although I've already watched it three or four times D:) and Little Miss Sunshine instead of doing my assignments. I tend to be horribly unproductive at home. I mean, I'm blogging instead of doing all the pending assignments, wtf am I thinking? All right, so I admit I'm not even that productive in hall, but at least I didn't have a three-hour long movie (including ads, of course) to distract me, and I'm pretty sure even I couldn't stumble/follow tumblogs for 3 hours straight. Actually, I think I can..eh but my point is, no TV in hall=better for assignments.

Uh oh. Something is wrong with my arrow keys. Since they cannot sense anything (even when I pummel them - with my finger, I mean). Oh wait. They work again.

Oh by the way I think you all know how I'm obsessed with pictures of pretty food and things. I think it has something to do with me trying to fill the dark, unfathomable void in my heart by ignoring my obvious lack of life (in this case prettiness is a symbol for happiness, however superficial) nowadays and making up for that by looking at pretty stuff. Scopophilia, right, Chip? I had to google that term, actually. D:

Tsunami alert! I wouldn't be to shocked if the world ends just about now. Okay, okay, exaggeration, but I think the whole 2012 thing may just be true, don't you? It's not a bunch of Jehovah's witnesses declaring the end of the world, but Mayans! Holy cow, Mayans!

No, really, I think the world may just end. Eh. Just when we're about to graduate. How serendipitous sad.

"Yay I have received my Degree in Arts and Social Sciences!"
*World ends*
"Oh shi-"
It's depressing how there's so much death and destruction occuring at this moment. Sigh.

Hey Jude's playing on my player now.

Na na na nananana nanananana. Bye.
I'm just a poor boy; I need no sympathy

It's not like I support piracy, but really.

I know its way past Valentine's, but still, what? ._. It's so depressing! Plus I have to concede that the comics there are sometimes too geeky/science-ish for me to grasp.

Well, off to bed now! Nightie night, people! Don't let the beetles bite!
The age of man is over

My sister texted me to tell me that she dreamt that I married two of you (as in, she said from my "group of friends").

What? The CNY overeating thing must be affecting everybody.
Under the sea, under the sea
22:52

Is that adorable or what?

Yes I've been stumbling again.

I've been having weird dreams lately, but I attribute it to the overeating of CNY goodies. Probably the dreams would stop once I've adjusted to the gross-food/no-appetite life in hall. But if you have been having recurring dreams, check this out.

Sometimes I have dreams of being trapped (while being chased by something scary. Once it was this killer robot thing, which reminds me of the episode of Spongebob Squarepants where Spongebob thought Mr. Krabs was a robot, but enough about that. Then another time it was this scary tall man who was after my entire family.. yeah, what?) in labyrinths which are full of dead-ends. I hate being trapped; maybe that's why I count dreams such as those to be one of the worst.

I want to go out with you all! Uni friends are fine and dandy, but they're nothing like old friends, right? :D
the devil's water, it ain't so sweet

You know something is wrong with your life when you're absent for one week from the Internet and your gmail inbox is full of project-related emails from different modules, and you realize you're way behind time.

Other than the shock from the many unread emails I had today, I've been pretty chill for the past few days. Absence from the Internet has made me realize how much I love being unfettered by the many chains tying us down to things we hate (who doesn't? Ironically I'm studying communications- tentatively- so effectively I'm engaged in the study of the very things I'm trying to distance myself from). Wouldn't it be nice to actually be cut off from the entire world once in a while? Not in the sense of world news and whatnot, but rather socially cut off, like Facebook (again, ironically, I have to be on Facebook for my FMA. Actually, it's worse than that; we have to start playing FarmVille for some, uh, experiment or something. FarmVille?! Sorry if I unintentionally flood your newsfeeds with news of how I've hatched a new chicken or accidentally got mauled by a cow), or project emails.

But really I think I'm just disgruntled by the fact that I've allowed unread emails to make me so flustered. I don't like emails! They're so archaic, mundane, and, worst of all, reminds me of the 9-5 slog and endless rows of depressing office cubicles.

And it doesn't help that I just had one of the worst hall dinners ever:
(viewer's discretion is advised)

Luckily I decreased the photo size; the larger image is too gross for words.

But in case you didn't see it, let me describe it to you: Brown oily muck fried with onions and rice. It was actually fried rice, lady's fingers, sotong and tofu. Considering how little rice I took, it's a wonder how the container ended up so oily. I had to force myself to finish most of it, because I didn't want to get hungry at night. But enough of this off-putting talk about hall food.

My left earphone decided to die on me, so now I'm using the humongo (in comparison, I mean) headphones my cousin gave me for Christmas.

Pink. I don't know-do I look like I'm a pink person now? I know I sure as hell didn't a few years ago, but somehow with my penchant for hairbands and my unfortunate choice of a laptop, I look like I have evolved into a pink-loving, long-haired (relatively) girly-girl girl (you know what I mean). I miss having short, manageable hair. By manageable I refer to the fact that you don't have to mess with your hair so much when it's short- no hair ties/pins/combing out the tangles in the morning. And it dries so freaking quickly after a shower, unlike long hair, which needs at least an hour to completely dry. So.

My desktop! Unfortunately I didn't manage to get the free Windows 7 update (T_T) so I shall make myself happy by changing how everything looks, but not how everything works. Which is superfluous, but at the same time not so (uh, moot point, sorry), seeing how I love all things food-related and whimsical. Well, unless the food-related thing is hall food.

I'm still in the CNY-mood, so I think I need this week to assimilate everything. Which means I'm going to take it slooow. As usual.

On another totally unrelated note, I like Queen's song, Killer Queen. It's weirdly whimsical and slightly sinister in some unknown way (eh, to me it is).

Killer Queen

She keeps Moet et Chandon
In a pretty cabinet
'Let them eat cake' she says
Just like Marie Antoinette
A built-in remedy
For Khrushchev and Kennedy
At anytime an invitation
You can't decline

Caviar and cigarettes
Well versed in etiquette
Extraordinarily nice

Chorus:
She's a Killer Queen
Gunpowder, Gelatine
Dynamite with a laser beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Anytime

Recommended at the price
Insatiable an appetite
Wanna try?

To avoid complications
She never kept the same address
In conversation
She spoke just like a baroness
Met a man from China
Went down to Asia Minor
Then again incidentally
If you're that way inclined

Perfume came naturally from Paris
for cars she couldn't care less
Fastidious and precise

Chorus

Drop of a hat she's as willing as
Playful as a pussy cat
Then momentarily out of action
Temporarily out of gas
To absolutely drive you wild, wild
She's out to get you

Chorus

Recommended at the price
Insatiable in appetite
Wanna try?
You wanna try.

I guess this is a long enough post, huh? And, in response to the tags, YES! I'm planning the March birthdays outing! :D But I'm sick of City Hall/Vivo, so if you've got any ideas, feel free to voice them out on the tagboard. Maybe we can go to someone's house and have a house party. Right.

Anyways, bye! Shall read Alice in the Wonderland now. I don't know why I don't feel any sense of urgency. Yet. And the essay I did from 3 to 6.30 in the morning after one of them productions rehearsals only got me a B+. Bloody spent 3 hours plus on it instead of sleeping (well, it was due on that day, so no choice actually) and only a B+? I really should start doing essays earlier. Sigh. I guess it's the slacker gene in me. (External locus of control!)

Yeah well, see ya!
I will not be frozen

Well it's Chinese New Year again.

I never did feel very festive on the first day of New Year (初一), because you know, it's visiting day, and I completely dread visiting my relatives. You see, every year we'll go visit my mother's side of the family and my father's side of the family would come visit us. And when I say "my mother's side", I actually allude to an entirely melodramatic past which you all don't know about. Something about how my mother's birth mother didn't want to keep her (bad luck, according to some half-cocked Feng Shui master? I don't know), and tried to induce abortion (probably according to some other half-assed Chinese method, whatever). And then my mother was almost sent to an orphanage (? According to the legend, that is), but was adopted by her Aunt (whom I came to know as my 外婆, who had passed on when I was seven). So the first family we visit is the huge family of the birth mother of my mother, and then we'd go visit my "Aunt", who, according to this melodramatic Canto-styled family history, isn't actually my aunt.

I have nothing against my "Aunt" as she's nice and all that; I do dread visiting my real (in the sense of blood-ties and whatnot) Aunts and Uncles on my mother's side (don't know why I capitalize the first letters, force of habit when addressing people, I guess). It's like "Oh, when are you going to lose weight?", to which I would bloody love to answer, "Not in this fucking lifetime, thank you very much for your concern," but probably lack the guts to do so (besides, I would so totally be slaughtered by my parents), so I just grimace a little and look appreciatively at the ceiling. And then they would talk about grades and stuff, which wouldn't bother me since I'm so hella smart I'm already in University and no way in hell am I telling them my CAP.

I think I may be exaggerating a little, but sometimes the nice Aunts are overshadowed by the not nice ones, and that's probably why I absolutely dread visiting.

And it's Valentine's Day tomorrow. Not like it holds any special connotations for me, unless you count the connotations of my inability to get dates (no, no, that sentence isn't meant to be read in a bitter tone-it's more of a self-deprecating tone). But it's like two completely overrated days blended into one. How completely awesome, right? Don't know why, but it seems as though I've just taken a dose of cynicism along with the phlegm-reducing pill I just took, because right now I'm as angsty as your next emo-cutter teen. I sincerely hope it's not PMS, because I'm already as hormonally-imbalanced as of now; don't need any more of that.

I'm recently hooked on following Tumblogs(?) on Tumblr. Especially those which show great graphics and pictures of pink pretty things, people or food. Oh, and another site which would make you lose your appetite for dinner (and gave Judy and me a laughing fit in the library on Wednesday, for reasons unknown).

I think the reason I'm so crabby (especially since it's the holiday season-kinda-and I don't have school to numb my mind) is that I haven't really met up with my friends in a long time, and even when we meet up it's usually for short periods of time and such occasions are few and far between. I hate how I'm still pretty much alone in NUS. It's not like I don't have friends, but when you aren't particularly close to them the sense of loneliness is more acute. It sucks that most of you are in non-Arts faculties, and those in Arts I don't even see much.

And it doesn't help that NUS is such a stingy bastard miser when it comes to giving us breaks. Must it eat into our CNY holidays? Must it eat into other festivals, like Hari Raya? I mean sometimes it seems like it determined to be viewed as elitist scum which totally does not respect our multicultural and multiracial society. And it doesn't respect our rights to slack. I hate people who don't respect slacking rights!

I don't really want to spend the New Year with such a disparaging post. It's almost twelve.

Happy Chinese New Year! And also, if you want to get a kick out of it, Happy Valentine's Day. I shall try cheering myself up by looking at pretty things.
you're a hot mess

My father's really into Lady Gaga.

Well, not really, but because all my sister and I do on weekends is drown ourselves in TV-land (which includes a lot of MTV Asia and Channel V), he cannot help but hear Bad Romance about five times a day. Seriously, they should keep check of what songs their playing and not keep looping the same 'ole songs over and over and over and overrrr again. Songs like "Whatcha said", "Live like we're dying" and, aptly, "Replay". But enough about that. My father apparently thought Lady Gaga was singing "Fellow Man" instead of "Bad Romance".

Walks in when Bad Romance MV is halfway through.
Father: "又是 Lady Gaga. 她唱那个 Fellow Man 是吗?"
Sister and I: ...

Okay, so we didn't do the ... thing, but rather giggled at the thought of Lady Gaga singing "Caught in a fellow man". To his credit it does sound like "Fellow Man". A little. Very, very little.

Anyway, that aside, I think Google Translate has improved by leaps and bounds! Because I had to use it to find the Chinese characters for this entry. Although it's not foolproof just yet:

"I think Google translate has improved by leaps and bounds!"
"我认为谷歌翻译了长足的改进!"

Yeah we can't all be perfect.

I haven't been blogging much lately, but it's not my decision. It's just that with Productions having had rehearsals till the dead of the night almost every night, I just didn't have the time orthe energy to blog. But now that it's over, I am (relatively) free again. Although I'm sick now; you should have seen me just now, with a wad of tissue stuck up my left nostril. Not a pretty sight, I tell you.

I am feeling very cui (cannot find a word for that, since it embodies the concepts of fatigue, the states of being pathetic and unkempt, and that quality of looking and feeling your worst) now. I think I shall go brush my teeth, look at some pretty pictures of food and clothes, and then send the email of the IHG article before the deadline. I really am under-rested (?) because I keep forgetting to do stuff. On classic and tragic example is how I forgot to upload my assignment onto IVLE before 5pm after I finished it at 3. You see, I took a nap immediately after finishing it, and woke up with a start at 6pm realising how screwed I was. But it's okay, 5 marks. D:

I think hall life is having a debilitating effect on my health. But I there's nothing a little retail therapy cannot solve! I shall down the cold tablets, get some sleep, and wake up fresh and healthy (one can wish) tomorrow for the SS project meeting, after which I'd go CNY Clothes Shopping (alone, yes, stop judging me!).

So I guess I'd better sleep since it's already 11.45pm. I'm felling hella hungry, but what can I do about that, huh?

Meh.

And now I'm having a migraine. I am such a self-pitying weenie, aren't I? :D

Weenie Hut Jr's

Uh, yeah. Good night!
Something's going on

Why did Fearless win the Album of the Year award? D:

I am so tired. I need to get some sleep since I only slept at 3 last night. Oh my gosh Hall is killing me. There's another rehearsal tonight, and it looks like sets is going to get reprimanded again, since we're always the ones fooling around and not having a sense of urgency. It's not our fault that it's such a shit sub-comm with only 6 people (one quit the comm, one quit the hall) left and so many freakin' heavy objects to carry around and prepare.

Of course the sub-comm head (who doesn't actually hate me, since it's not in his capacity to hate someone who might just quit the comm in anger and leave sets with 5 people. Haha, nah I'm just being a bitch; he's actually quite nice) knows that we're all kind of fatigued and pissed off at the fact that we're viewed as the 老鼠屎 of Productions so he sent an incredibly loooong text to all the members last night. Like, seriously looooong.

I hate responsibilities. And by that I mean responsibilities I feel obliged to keep but hate doing so. It's false because we're supposed to be wanting to do our best for Hall since we love it so, but actually to me it's just a sense of being pushed into doing something I hate. Uh I'm just going about the same point over and over again. Heck I shall go for a siesta/nap/snooze now.

Bye.
